Warranty and returns
Everything we sell carries the manufacturer's warranty, and everything we sell to a consumer carries the guarantees the Australian Consumer Law gives you on top of it. This page explains both, and how to make a claim.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
These rights sit alongside the manufacturer's warranty. They are not limited by it, they do not expire when it does, and nothing on this page reduces them.
A failure is major when the product is significantly different from its description, is unfit for its normal purpose and cannot easily be made fit, is unsafe, or has a problem a reasonable buyer would not have accepted had they known about it. For a major failure you choose the remedy: a refund, a replacement, or keeping the goods and being compensated for the drop in value. For a minor failure we may choose to repair the product instead.
Manufacturer warranty
The warranty period is set by the manufacturer and shown on each product page. As a rule:
- Business laptops and desktops: 1 to 3 years, often on-site
- Consumer laptops and desktops: 1 year return-to-base
- Monitors: 3 years
- Printers: 1 year, upgradeable with a care pack
- Components and accessories: 1 to 5 years depending on the vendor
Some vendors — HP, Lenovo and Dell among them — service warranty claims directly and will usually resolve them faster than we can as an intermediary. For those brands we will give you the vendor's case line and stay involved if it stalls. You are never required to go to the manufacturer instead of us: if you would rather deal only with us, say so and we will run the claim.
Care packs and warranty upgrades must be registered with the manufacturer, usually within 90 days of purchase. If you bought one from us, register it when the hardware arrives — we will send you the details.
Change-of-mind returns
We accept change-of-mind returns for 30 days from delivery, which is more than the law requires of us.
To be accepted, the product must be unused, in its original packaging with all accessories and documentation, and in a condition we can resell. Return freight is at your cost, and we refund the purchase price less any original delivery cost.
Some things cannot be returned for change of mind:
- Software licences and digital keys once the key has been issued
- Consumables where the seal has been broken (toner, ink, media)
- Special-order and custom-configured hardware brought in specifically for you
None of this applies to faulty goods. If the product is faulty, the rules above about consumer guarantees apply regardless of packaging, seals or elapsed time.
Dead on arrival
If a product fails within 14 days of delivery, treat it as dead on arrival: contact us and we will replace it rather than sending you into a repair queue.
Making a claim
Email support@pcmegamart.com.au with:
- Your order number
- The serial number of the product
- A description of the fault, and what you have already tried
- Photographs or a short video where the fault is visible
We will respond within one business day with a return authorisation or the vendor's case reference. Please do not ship anything back before you have a return authorisation — unannounced returns are hard to match to an order and slow your claim down.
Repairs and refurbished parts
Goods presented for repair may be replaced by refurbished goods of the same type rather than being repaired. Refurbished parts may be used in a repair. Where a repair is capable of retaining user-generated data, the repair may result in the loss of that data — back up anything you cannot lose before sending hardware in.
Costs
Where a product is genuinely faulty, we pay return freight. Where a product is returned as faulty and tests clear, we may charge you the return freight and any assessment fee the vendor charges us — we will always tell you before that happens, never after.
